Tooling features
Intuitive user interface
Much of our experience has gone into the design of the user interface. Very capable graphics systems, especially 3D systems, have a tendency to become complex in their operation. Our GUI is designed so that the complexity only increases when the requirements increase. Simple functionality remains simple to design and operate. But when required, it will still offer the advanced functionality for the experienced user.
Creativity
Channel Director offers, personalised, prefab libraries including analog and digital clocks, tickers and a constantly expanding function set, fed back by our installed user base.

The possibility to use multiple live feeds and clips at the highest broadcast quality in multiple DVEs, is a unique feature of the Channel Director on the Nexus hardware, offering exciting and new possibilities in design. Frame accurate timeline editing allows simple and complex scenes to be designed, using a variety of effects including mirroring and blending of 2D and 3D objects. The 3D objects can be imported from your favorite 3D design package allowing ultimate creativity.

Metadata awareness
The integration with the playout environment and media asset management system offers the availability to integrate metadata from assets and schedules directly into the design. No additional steps need to be taken to add dynamic data into the design. Now/Next presentations, Menus, Clip titles and Tickers are all easily filled with the appropriate data. But also the more technical challenges like arcing and dynamic text widths are automatically dealt with.

Graphics Workflow
In our experience, having a capable graphics system is not the only factor in a strong branding presence on broadcast channels.

Key to on-air graphics usability is the integration with playout and media asset management. A very well defined workflow from the graphics creation to the moment the design is taken live to air is fundamental in a channels branding experience. With Channel Director and its integration with Cobalt playout and TX/MAM, we ensure either a cost reduction in branding or an increase of functionality for the same effort.

Offline preparation
Channel Director runs on Windows and Mac (Q3-2011) operating systems allowing channel and graphics design away from the playout environment. This independency of the hardware positions Channel Director as a powerful creation and editing tool for playout, graphics, branding, promo production, games and live shows. The Nexus system performs the actual live and real-time rendering to the highest quality and reliability that the professional broadcaster demands.
Pack and Deliver
Version and quality control in a dynamic multichannel environment is a challenge. Channel Director offers native functionality to label a version of a design and offers a well defined workflow till the moment the new design is taken live to air. The channel package is managed and distributed as if it were one of the assets in the management system and contains all non-dynamic elements in a design. Optionally, a QC stage is implemented into the Nexus playout environment before taking new and rebranded channels live.
